The committee met to deal with committee business, including the adoption of reports from the previous Parliament that were not tabled due to prorogation. Rachael Thomas moved to adopt a report on the holding of a National Forum on the Media, and Martin Champoux proposed adopting all three outstanding reports together. The committee agreed to adopt the three motions as a group.

The committee then discussed a study on the effects of technological advances in artificial intelligence on creative industries. Members agreed to hold at least five meetings on the topic. Bernard Généreux raised concerns about the 48-hour deadline for submitting witness lists and asked for flexibility to add witnesses later. The committee agreed to proceed with the study, with the understanding that additional witnesses could be added after the initial list was submitted.

Rachael Thomas moved a motion for a study on the journalism and media sectors in Canada and Quebec, including issues of fairness and competition, with at least five meetings. The motion originally proposed inviting the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and the President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada for two hours each. Martin Champoux amended the motion to remove the specified two-hour appearance for the CBC/Radio-Canada CEO, instead adding her to the general witness list. The committee agreed to this amendment, keeping the minister’s two-hour appearance. The motion was adopted as amended.
