The committee held its first meeting of the session to elect its chair and vice-chairs. The clerk presided over the election of the chair, and Sameer Zuberi nominated Julie Dzerowicz, who was elected chair by the committee. Brad Redekopp then nominated Michelle Rempel Garner for first vice-chair, and Sameer Zuberi nominated Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe for second vice-chair; both were elected without opposition.

After the elections, the committee dealt with procedural matters. Michelle Rempel Garner raised a point of order about the seating arrangement, asking for a better set-up so members could be seen. The clerk said they would look into it. The committee then agreed to adopt the routine motions as distributed by the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, without reading them aloud, following the example of another committee.

The committee did not hear from any minister or departmental officials. It concluded by adopting a motion from Peter Fragiskatos to adjourn the meeting. No substantive business was left unresolved.
