The Standing Committee on Finance (FINA) held its first meeting of the session to elect its chair and vice-chairs. The clerk presided over the election of the chair, and Karina Gould was elected chair. Jasraj Hallan was elected first vice-chair, and Jean-Denis Garon was elected second vice-chair.

Following the elections, the committee adopted a series of routine motions governing its operations, including procedures for witness testimony, document distribution, in camera meetings, and notice of motions. The committee also adopted a motion regarding the consideration of bills referred by the House.

After the routine motions were adopted, Jasraj Hallan moved a motion calling on the Minister of Finance to table a budget before Parliament closes for the summer. Ryan Turnbull moved an amendment to the motion, which would remove the timeline requirement. Debate on the motion and amendment began but was not concluded before the meeting ended. The committee adjourned without a decision on the motion or the amendment.
