The committee dealt with several motions to approve new studies and set their priority order. It unanimously adopted a Bloc Québécois motion to conduct a study on antimicrobial resistance, with a minimum of four meetings and a report to the House. It also unanimously adopted a Liberal motion for a study of at least eight hours on Canada’s pharmaceutical sovereignty, examining domestic supply of essential medicines and medical supplies. A Conservative motion to study physician shortages was previously adopted but not yet voted on in this meeting.

The committee then debated the order in which to conduct these new studies alongside two ongoing studies—one on women’s health, which is ready to be reported out, and one on the opioid crisis, for which an interim report is being prepared. Members proposed different sequences: the Conservatives suggested their study first, followed by the Bloc and Liberal studies; the Liberals proposed the Bloc study first, then the Liberal study, then the Conservative study. Some members urged prioritizing the opioid study or the previously approved cancer study. No vote was taken on the priority order, leaving it unresolved.

A Conservative motion to invite the Minister of Health, Marjorie Michel, to appear for two hours no later than October 10, 2025, to discuss her mandate was introduced but not voted on. The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Ms. Chi before that motion could be decided.
