The committee met for its first organizational meeting of the 2025 Parliament. The clerk presided over the election of the chair and vice-chairs. Ben Carr was elected chair, Raquel Dancho was elected first vice-chair, and Gabriel Ste-Marie was elected second vice-chair. All elections were by acclamation.

After the elections, the committee adopted its routine motions as a block by unanimous consent. These motions establish the basic protocols for the committee’s operations, including procedures for meetings, witnesses, and budgets.

The committee’s analysts, Sarah Lemelin-Bellerose and Dana Fan, introduced themselves and outlined the non-partisan research and analysis services the Library of Parliament can provide to support the committee’s work. No other business was conducted, and no decisions were left unresolved.
