The House of Commons Standing Committee on Natural Resources held its first meeting of the session to elect its chair and vice-chairs. The clerk presided over the election of the chair, and Corey Hogan nominated Terry Duguid, who was elected by the committee. Corey Tochor then nominated Shannon Stubbs as first vice-chair, and Claude Guay nominated Mario Simard as second vice-chair; both were elected without opposition.

After the elections, Corey Tochor moved to adopt the committee’s routine motions. Before that motion could be dealt with, Claude Guay moved to adjourn the meeting. A procedural dispute arose: Shannon Stubbs argued that the agenda had been skipped and that the adjournment motion was therefore invalid. She then attempted to introduce a motion regarding “Trudeau era anti-energy laws, including Bill C-69,” but Mario Simard raised a point of order that the adjournment motion had already been recognized and required a vote first.

The committee did not resolve the dispute or vote on any substantive motions. The meeting ended without adopting routine motions or proceeding to other business, leaving the status of the adjournment motion and Ms. Stubbs’ proposed motion unresolved.
