Public Safety and National Security

The committee’s first meeting of the session was devoted to electing a chair and two vice-chairs. Jacques Ramsay nominated Jean-Yves Duclos as chair, and the motion was carried. Dane Lloyd nominated Frank Caputo as first vice-chair, and Marianne Dandurand nominated Claude DeBellefeuille as second vice-chair; both were elected.

The chair then proposed adopting a series of routine motions covering analyst services, a subcommittee on agenda and procedure, meeting rules when quorum is absent, travel, witness opening statements and questioning time, document distribution, working meals, witness expenses, access to in-camera meetings, transcripts of in-camera meetings, notice of motions, and orders of reference from the House. The committee agreed to these motions.

Dane Lloyd moved a motion to adopt as a report of this committee the previous session’s report on fighting vehicle thefts, and to request a government response under Standing Order 109. After debate in which members from all parties expressed support, the committee agreed to the motion. Claude DeBellefeuille gave notice of a motion for a future study on Canada–U.S. border management. The meeting then adjourned.
